The 144th Belmont Stakes will take place this year on Saturday June 9, 2012 at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The Belmont Stakes is the third and last leg of the US Triple Crown, following the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. Coverage of the 2012 Belmont Stakes race will include live streaming online and televised coverage of the latest thoroughbred horse race.
Many viewers will watch the live horse racing online or on their TV for this particular race. This year’s edition is a particularly exciting one for the Belmont Stakes, because there is a contender to win the Triple Crown. The horse I’ll Have Another has already won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, and can win the first Triple Crown since Affirmed won in 1978. Since 1978, eleven different horses have won the Derby and Preakness, but failed to win at Belmont.
Coverage for the Belmont Stakes 2012 will begin Friday, June 8th on the NBC Sports Network from 4-5pm EST. At this time, the Belmont Stakes Classics will be shown, introducing new fans to the race and allowing long-time fans to relive some of the most exciting Belmont Stakes moments. Directly following this program on NBC Sports Network will be the hour-long Belmont Stakes Access, which shows clips from past races as well as the latest news regarding the race. This program will also detail horses Jaipur and Brooklyn.
On the day of the race, coverage will begin on NBC Sports Network at 3pm EST with Belmont Stakes Prep. This program will offer profiles on horses Just A Game, True North, and Woody Stephens and will provide viewers with up-to-date information on the race. The Belmont Stakes live streaming coverage will come courtesy of the NBC Sports website, which has shown the previous two major races, with the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.
Complete live horse racing coverage of the Belmont Stakes will air on NBC beginning at 5pm EST, with the main event set to start at 6:35pm EST. Following the event will be the Belmont Stakes Post Race, which will air on NBC Sports Network for a half hour after the main coverage on NBC and will break down the race results.
Update: As of Friday 6/8, I’ll Have Another has been scratched from the lineup and will not compete in the Belmont Stakes race.
